Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On May 10, 2012, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency considered providing financial assistance to the proponent.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

The proponent has proposed to expand an existing race track facility. Expansion of the existing race track will include: construction of a 604 m paved oval race track (approximately 9300 m2), construction of a 402 m dirt oval stock car track (approximately 9000 m2),construction of a 201 m paved drag strip (approximately 4850 m2) , expansion of an existing building by 221 m2, construction of a technical building with a footprint of 119 m2, and construction of 2 washrooms with a footprint of 80 m2. The project will occur on an unserviced lot. A well and septic system will be installed on site.

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
