Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On February 28, 2012, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Fisheries and Oceans Canada was the proponent for the project.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

The Canadian Coastguard is proposing the construction of a new dock approach, gangway and floating dock for the Canadian Coast Guard Search and Rescue Station in Bamfield, B.C.

The scope of the project includes the supply and fabrication of new steel pipe piles, a reinforced concrete floatiing dock and an aluminum -truss pedestrian /light vehicular traffic walkway.

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
