Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On February 27, 2012, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Fisheries and Oceans Canada considered taking action in relation to subsection 35(2) of the Fisheries Act.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

The project involves the establishment by the municipality of Pointe-aux-Outardes of a groyne field with sand recharge operations over a 1.5-km section of bank to control erosion in that sector.

The project scope corresponds to all components of the proposal submitted by the proponent, as well as all works, temporary structures and activities directly related to the project (e.g., cofferdams, fill operations, revegetation).

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
