Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On June 13, 2011, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Department of National Defence was the proponent for the project.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

Barrack Green has a 15256L ECOVAULT heating oil tank which has to be permanently removed from service. The tank is no longer required due to natural gas conversion of the armoury. The concrete pad will also be removed and all associated piping and a 900L day tank that is located in the basement boiler room. The aboveground tank will be removed and disposed of as per SOR/2008-197 June 12, 2008, Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999., Sections 44 and 45.

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
