Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On September 1, 2010, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Department of National Defence was the proponent for the project.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

B Coy 3 PPCLI will conduct Ex WANDERING SPARTAN from 22 Nov 10 to 26 Nov 10. Dismounted patrols and raids / ambushes will be conducted throughout the day and night in the Camp Wright area. Although the majority of all training focuses on dismounted operations, it will be necessary to operate ATVs within the training area to act as safety vehicles in case of an incident. This deployment will be conducted in 3 phases: Ph1 - Deployment & Setup of Admin area in Camp Wright Ph2 - Conduct of patrols Ph3 - Clean-up and Return to CFB Edmonton

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
