Reasons for a Federal Assessment
On November 10, 2008, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada considered providing federal lands.
Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)
A surface lease consisting of a 424.21 m long access road and 0.81 ha area for drilling and operating a natural gas well will be constructed and maintained for the operating life of the well, then decommissioned and reclaimed before the lease agreement is surrendered.
Final Decision
On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
