Reasons for a Federal Assessment

On October 25, 2007, it was determined that an environmental assessment was required in relation to the project because Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada considered providing financial assistance to the proponent.

Project Description (as posted in the Notice of Commencement)

1)The existing treatment facility will be expanded to include a pre-treatment system and it will also be expanded to include one new sand filter (6m x 36m).

2)If necessary, increase the volume of the intake storage pond (this task is still under study). If required, then the height of the access road will have to be increased and the intake and spillway will have to be replaced.

3) Installation of 150m of new watermain near the Ksan historical village and Museum.

4) Replacement of two pressure reducing valve stations

5) Construction of sludge lagoons to dispose of pre-treatment wastes.

Final Decision

On July 6, 2012, the new Canadian Environmental Assessment Act, 2012 came into force which replaced the former Canadian Environmental Assessment Act. As a result, there is no longer a requirement to complete the environmental assessment of this project.
