Please build it, and do it well

This is a must-have link for the people that live in Gatineau (sector), Buckingham, Masson-Angers. It would stop us from being bottlenecked through Hull into Ottawa every day as a lot of us work in Ottawa. It would relieve pressure in the downtown region in Ottawa and Hull, making it a more pleasant place to go to. There would be a lot less cars and large trucks that are currently causing gridlocks 3 times a day. Which would make it safer and more accessible for people using public transport, pedestrians, and bikes, etc. I live right next to the highway in Gatineau, and still refuse to go to Ottawa in general due to how much traffic and chaos there is, it is overwhelming.

That said, this needs to be done right. We need to ensure that cars are kept metres away from pedestrians and bikes, and that many cyclists can move safely, to accommodate for growing use. Electric bikes and scooters, mobility chairs, skateboards, roller-blades, etc. all need to be taken into account. It may be a good idea to separate the pedestrians from the cyclists and other mobility aid users, for extra safety. It may also be a good idea to make those bike/mobility aid lines extra wide, or have 2 lanes in each direction to accommodate the growing use.

Most importantly, please take into account natural shade from trees, as well as the sun's path throughout the day in summer here. Much of Gatineau and Ottawa is plagued by poor city planning, causing pedestrians and cyclists to be stuck for long stretches without any shaded areas to walk in, or even any shaded public benches or resting areas. This makes travelling using active means very hard on the body, especially during heatwaves, which are becoming more common. During heatwaves, you can make yourself sick just by choosing to take your bike to do your errands/commute. You can pack water with ice, and wear adequate clothing, but the lack of shade is truly awful, and dangerous for everyone in the climate change crisis we are experiencing. If budget allows, please also consider adding even only one public water fountain where you can fill your water bottle, or drink from the fountain.

I can understand people's gripes with redirecting traffic to regions in Ottawa and Gatineau that are not currently very traffic heavy. However, with proper planning and a focus on separating the cars from the pedestrians and cyclists, etc. we can make these zones more traffic heavy, but also safe and livable for everyone around these regions.

I'm no engineer, but maybe a suspension bridge would be best, considering the Kettle Island?

In short, please build it, but plan this well and execute it properly.
