Bischof Islands Float Camp Rehabilitation

Parks Canada is proposing repair work at the Bischoff Islands float camp, which serves as a central logistical hub for operations throughout Gwaii Haanas. The float camp consists of two housing floats and two support floats and has been in service at its current location since 2015. No new structures will be added, and there will be no increase in footprint below the high-water mark. The project will include repairs to the flotation, moorage, float connections, walkways, and interior and exterior structures to improve safety and extend service life. Work will involve removing marine growth from the underside of existing foam flotation and installing a protective barrier beneath the floats; replacing existing moorage components, anchors, float-to-float connections, and bull rails; replacing interior drywall with a marine-suitable alternative; installing two incinerator toilets and associated plumbing upgrades; reconstructing walkways; and adding flotation to level the existing floats. Work occurring in water will undergo Fisheries and Oceans Canada review to ensure appropriate mitigation measures for the marine environment.
