Community Member's concerns

While I understand the short-term benefits to indiviuals for employment, there are clearly much longer-term impacts this proposed project will have on the community and environment. The economic issues faced in Nova Scotia would be provided a shody band-aid at best, one that will actively damage an already precarious local ecosystem. This damage will be present for many, many years to come once the proposed project terminates. The economic streams do not address the previous damage to fishing industries and other local work forces that have befallen the area when caution and prevention were not implemented early enough. I want to see the growth, development and protection of the valuable resources the St. Mary's River provides. 

This is not to mention, the primary economic beneficiary would be the Australian gold mining company. Who truly benefits from this project? St. Barbara gains far more than Nova Scotia and our communities. 

Let us actively support our community with sustainable, long-lasting projects that provide work and ensure our beautiful area can thrive not only now but also into the future. I oppose this mining project and request a detailed exploration of the impacts on our Ecologically Significant Area.
