Protect The River

My name is Gabe Cook, and I am asking for a full federal environmental assessment of the Fifteen Mile Processing Hub.

Growing up in the northern branch of the St. Mary's River has made this place more than just important to me, this place is part of my community and my future. Like many people my age, I have spent time enjoying the outdoors here whether it's fishing, exploring the woods, or just appreciating this place's beauty. The St. Mary's River is what makes this community a place people are proud to call home.

While you can find economic growth in other places, you can't find another body of water like this one. If the St. Marys River is harmed through pollution or habitat destruction, you can't restore it. Most of the wildlife that depends on the clean water it provides, and the ecosystems it supports could be altered for generations. Jobs and economic benefits may be temporary, but the loss of our river can be permanent. That is why protecting places like the St. Marys River is not just about today, it is about ensuring mine as well as future generations inherit a healthy environment rather than the consequences of something that could have been avoided. 

To me, this is about making sure our river stays clean and the right process is followed. Projects with a probability to damage our environment and culture should receive the highest level of review. A full federal environmental assessment would ensure that all potential impacts are carefully studied, the public has a meaningful opportunity to be heard, and decisions are based on the best available science. Our community deserves nothing less.

I ask that you require a full federal environmental assessment of the Fifteen Mile Processing Hub. Thank you for your time and for considering the voices of young people who will inherit the decisions made today.
