As a lifelong resident of Nova Scotia, I believe in supporting the 15-Mile Processing Hub Project.
Since working in the construction sector, I have observed that large-scale projects have economic spin-offs that go well beyond the actual area of the project. Large projects stimulate demand for contractors, tradespeople, equipment operators, transportation companies, suppliers, maintenance services, and countless other local businesses. A large-scale project such as the one being proposed generates an enormous amount of economic activity which ultimately supports jobs and families across various sectors of the economy within all parts of Nova Scotia.
One of the aspects of the 15-Mile Processing Hub Project that is most encouraging to me is the fact that there will be a focus placed upon redeveloping historic mining lands by remediating the legacy environmental problems and minimizing environmental impacts through extensive redesigns of the project. In addition, the project includes commitments to both community partnerships and responsible reclamation, demonstrating a balance to how this project will proceed.
In addition, since the project has undergone significant design changes to minimize its overall environmental impact while still providing the potential economic benefits that can result to the people of Nova Scotia, I see this as further demonstration of good faith and cooperation with regulatory bodies, local residents, and the Mi'kmaq people of Nova Scotia to continually assess and make improvements to the project based on concerns expressed.
Therefore, I support advancing the 15-Mile Processing Hub Project as it may generate new opportunities for employment, business, and communities within Nova Scotia.
