As someone who was born, raised, and lived in Nova Scotia for all of my life, I would be happy to support the proposed 15-Mile Processing Hub Project.
As a small business owner, I operate a local dog kennel, so I have first hand knowledge of how important it is to build a successful economy at the local level. The success of the local economy depends on people having good paying jobs. When people have good paying jobs, then those people can invest locally. Those same people will spend their hard earned money locally and assist in creating an environment where small businesses such as mine can grow and become more successful.
Additionally, over the course of time I have watched many young adults leave the Province of Nova Scotia to seek out work opportunities available in other provinces. This project provides the type of career opportunities that could provide an alternative to leaving the Province of Nova Scotia to find good work. Young adults could continue to live in the Province of Nova Scotia, start families, and become productive members of their respective communities.
The economic benefits from the project include job creation, increased local spending, and investments made across the entire Province of Nova Scotia. Additionally, I am glad that the redesign of the project has reduced potential negative environmental impacts and that the company has demonstrated that they will reclaim the areas they have mined once operations cease.
Ultimately, I feel that this project represents a unique opportunity to support both the economic growth and responsible development of the Province of Nova Scotia.
