Power to Choose

As part of the P008434- Power to Choose project funded by Global Affairs Canada, Oxfam-Québec will build a new medical pavilion on the grounds of the Walewale Health Center in the Mamprusi West District of Ghana. The pavilion will serve as a pediatric clinic providing postnatal care to children aged 5 and under. In addition, a new septic tank will be built due to the creation of a bathroom dedicated to the delivery room in the main building of the complex. It is located on the south side of the health facility, 2 meters from the structure. It measures 1,200 x 2,400 x 1,500 mm and consists of two chambers dedicated to solid and liquid waste from the bathroom. Finally, the health center will be connected to the Ghana Water Company's main water line that runs along the Walewale-Bolgatanga highway. To convey water to the health center, the ground will be dug to a width of 0.3 m, a depth of 0.9 m, and a length of 45.6 m. Nine HDPE pipes, 32 mm in diameter and 6 m long, will be connected to the main water pipe and buried in the excavated area. The water meter will be installed near the water point. The construction work will be monitored by the architectural firm hired (competent authority). They will be present on site according to the planned schedule to supervise the contractor and ensure that the work is carried out correctly. In addition, the Ghana Health Service housing unit in Walewale is responsible for all health facility construction work in the municipality. It will conduct regular inspection visits to the site to monitor the progress of the work and provide instructions on the structure. The final monitoring role will be carried out by Oxfam staff in Ghana based in Tamale. They will carry out periodic checks on the construction site to assess the progress of work on the facility and liaise with the construction workers and the relevant authority supervising the work to ensure that it is progressing and that we are getting value for money. The site around the facility is generally bare/unpaved, with no signs of landscaping.
