Proceeding with this project is not appropriate until a full environmental impact assessment has been conducted. The large-scale disturbance of the water flow may adversely the local habitat. This has not been sufficiently investigated or mitigated. The disturbance of the reservoir area, both in construction and in constant and during operation (long-term flow of water ) may expose both explosives and toxins, which will enter the water system, has not been properly investigated or eliminated. Georgian Bay is the drinking water source for the area, and the environmental ecosystem could be devastated by this disruption.

The Department of National Defence has confirmed that nearly a third of Base Meaford (more than 6,400 acres) has been declared off-limits to all military and police personnel due to “extremely contaminated with unexploded ordanance of various types and natures”. The documented contaminants found on the Federal Contaminated Sites registry include lead, methyl mercury, selenium, cancer-causing Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs), and organo-metallic compounds containing arsenic and zinc — all serious threats to soil, water, marine life, and human health.
