Replacement of an navigational aid structure at Pointe Qirniraujuaq

The Canadian Coast Guard needs to replace its navigation aid structure NLF6433.2 at Pointe Qirniraujuaq, Nunavik, as the structure has reached the end of its useful life, shows signs of significant deterioration and represents a safety issue for maintenance personnel. The tower has been closed to climbing for several years. The project involves replacing the tower and foundation. The current structure supports a radar reflector and a Racon. Pointe Qirniraujuaq is a prime location for the Racon's effectiveness in tracking ships heading for the Koksoak River.

The project involves the construction of a new 4' x 4' x 30' high steel tower to house the navigational aids. The existing, obsolete tower will be dismantled on site, and the scrap will be shipped back to Quebec City by sea container.
