Locally-led Indigenous Nature-based Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation in Zimbabwe
The project, implemented by Mennonite Central Committee Canada, seeks to foster low-carbon and climate-resilient economies in three districts of Zimbabwe (Gwanda, Mwenezi and Binga) to support vulnerable groups of women, men, boys and girls, while strengthening the biodiversity. These three regions are experiencing significant loss of biodiversity and ecosystems. They are strongly affected by climate change and experience high levels of food insecurity. Project activities include: (1) raising awareness and building the capacity of women and men to develop and implement nature-based solutions for the restoration of natural ecosystems; (2) strengthening agricultural production by integrating nature-based solutions into agricultural systems; and (3) strengthening the capacity of communities and, in particular, women, to implement sustainable value chains and develop new market opportunities and business development activities.

March 24, 2025 – The public comment period on the project is closed. Global Affairs Canada is considering comments received to help inform its determination on whether the carrying out of the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
