Rehabilitation of water and sanitation infrastructures in four Health facilities, including the construction of incinerators in East Ukraine
This is a non-designated project on federal lands or outside Canada. The listed authorities are responsible for the project assessment.
Project Summary:
This project, funded by the Canadian Government through Global Affairs Canada (GAC) under the Comprehensive Humanitarian Multi-Sectoral Response for Conflict, Disaster and at-Risk Communities in Ethiopia, Lebanon, Syria, Ukraine and Yemen (2024-2026) initiative, and implemented by International Medical Corps (IMC). In Ukraine, the project aims to ensure the availability of WASH services in four healthcare facilities in Ukraine. These services will support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and war-affected host communities utilizing the rehabilitated health facilities. The rehabilitation will be carried out with a focus on equitable accessibility and guided by the WASH-Fit (Facility Improvement Tool) approach.
The proposed activities in Ukraine focus on rehabilitating four health facilities and providing essential cleaning items and tools, integrated with IPC refresher training for health facility staff responsible for disinfection and medical waste management. The rehabilitation work will prioritize inclusivity, especially for individuals with special needs. This will involve replacing broken or shattered windows and doors, repairing cracks, upgrading non-functional water and sanitation facilities (16 toilets, 4 showers, 32 hand washing basins), and installing four accessible toilets, ramps, handrails, and additional fixtures to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities, including those with visual or hearing impairments.
