The Corporation of the Township of Ignace is pleased to submit the attached report, “Peer Review of NWMO’s Response to the IAAC and CNSC Issues List,” as part of the ongoing review of the Deep Geological Repository for Canada’s Used Nuclear Fuel Project.
The Township acknowledges the work undertaken by the Nuclear Waste Management Organization in preparing its Response to the Summary of Issues, and recognizes the important roles of the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission in overseeing this process, including the consideration of more than 900 comments from individuals and organizations.
Ignace continues to affirm its strong support for proceeding with the Revell site as the preferred location for Canada’s DGR and remains committed to contributing to this generational infrastructure in a manner rooted in safety, science, and stewardship. The comments in the attached peer review are intended to provide observations and suggestions on NWMO’s response, including areas where additional clarification, safety focus, and host‑community considerations would, in the Township’s view, strengthen the material that will inform the Impact Statement and subsequent licensing documents.
The Township of Ignace looks forward to continued, orderly engagement with NWMO, IAAC, CNSC, Wabigoon Lake Ojibway Nation, and neighbouring municipalities as the project advances through the impact assessment and phased licensing process.
