Concerns about nuclear waste burial

I am born and raised in Northwestern Ontario 30 mins away from the proposed burial site. I am a plan to raise my family in Dryden, Ontario.

My primary concerns are the transportation and contamination risks. Our highways are very dangerous. Highway 17 between Thunder Bay and Dryden is often closed multiple times a month due to accidents. This must be considered when doing an assessment on the environment and public health. These highways are not fit to host two transport trucks per day as suggested by NWMO. Road closures often lead to backed up traffic. Sitting in traffic near a truck that contains high level nuclear waste must be studied. Highways can be closed for hours or even days depending on severity. In northwestern Ontario, we use primarily hydroelectric power. In this area we are not familiar with the risks of nuclear waste. We do not have the resources in small communities to clean and protect the environment nor do we have resources to treat multiple people with health issues caused by nuclear contamination.

The environmental assessment must protect the water we drink, bathe in, and cook with. I do not want to raise a family in a town where my kids will be at risk of exposure.

The assement must consider water contamination. If a leak were to happen who would be at risk? How are they being protected? What is the effect on nearby communities?

If contaminated water is released from settling ponds intentionally what are the levels of contamination being released?

I am concerned that no one would be able to guarantee the safety of this long term storage for my family and community as well as neighbouring communities as it has never been done before anywhere in the world. I do not want my family and friends to be the test subjects on something so potentially dangerous.
