Unbelievable Entitlement

The NWMO (Nuclear Waste management Organisation, really the face of the nuclear industry) presents itself as an entitled being that does not have to answer to anyone, and that does not really take the Impact Assessment process seriously. Nor do they care what the Canadian people think; rather, the NWMO simply walks all over everyone, especially Indigenous peoples whose land will be effected the most by the proposed DGR (Deep Geological repository). Why do they disregard social responsibility? Why do they disregard science that demonstrates the impracticality of such a project? Why does the Government of Canada give the nuclear industry a carte blanche to do whatever it wants?

Because, in fact, the nuclear industry does not answer to any of these people or bureaucracies.

President Macron of France admitted plainly that France needs nuclear reactors to support its public energy supply AND to support its military, as France is the only nation in the EU (European Union) that has nuclear weapons.

Without nuclear weapons there would be no nuclear power for civilian use.

Without nuclear power for civilian use there would be far less material to go into atomic bombs.

So, what drives the nuclear industry?

When your job is to kill people, lying comes easy.

The nuclear industry of Canada, and of every other country, is NOT trying to kill anyone. For them, it happens by accident. Nor is the Government of Canada trying to kill people. The Government of Canada is not even in authority over Canada's nuclear industry. That control rests in American hands. The USA is a nuclear power; Canada is not, but we supply raw uranium to the USA and other countries and indirectly we support their proliferation of nuclear weapons. Back in the 1950s, people were aware of this strong connection between atomic weapons and nuclear power for civilian use. Over the following decades that public awareness faded, but it seems to be growing again - as it should.

Humans are still far too primitive to be playing with nuclear power of any kind. Nuclear fission is the principle behind our nuclear power plants; smashing uranium atoms to generate heat to boil water to make steam to drive a turbine which drives an alternator that supplies electricity to the power grid and our homes and industries. The most expensive and MOST DANGEROUS way to boil water.

Humans are good at killing each other. From throwing stones at each other, to making bows and arrows, to the development of guns of all sizes, to missiles and air craft flying bombs to great distances. We are the only creature on Earth that can kill from a distance. Atomic weapons allow us to kill a lot more people with smaller bombs. The after-effects are horrendous. radiation contaminates the land, contaminates the buildings, killing plants and animals, making large areas of land unusable and unlivable for decades. We do this on-purpose and it happens by accident.

Most nuclear reactors use light water (regular water) where the CANDU reactors use heavy water, which is much safer. There has never been an accident with a heavy water reactor, but many accidents with light water reactors. Canada is proposing to build a huge reactor complex at Wesleyville, Ontario, but Hydro One is leaning strongly towards NOT using the CANDU process??!! Why? Cost. Truly this is like complaining about a 35-cent bag for your $200 grocery order.

The primitive Human instinct to bury and hide what frightens us permeates the world-wide plans for DGRs. How can "scientists" be so uniformly incompetent in this important matter?

DGR design is fairly uniform around the world. The use of a lot of concrete, the use of bentonite clay, the use of copper lining in the burial casks, the reprocessing of the spent fuel packets prior to being buried.  NWMO decided that one-tenth the thickness of copper would suffice compared to what Scandinavian countries have planned. Cost. Concrete heats up and releases water as it cures. That will wet the bentonite clay which can only be wetted once, as it turns out. As the nuclear waste releases its own heat, which is trapped, the clay dries out and cannot absorb water any further in its life. How does make for a "long term" multi-layer barrier? It all sounds "thought out", and there is support that "everyone else" will be doing it this way.

NWMO spins all of this in the repetition=truth method used by all con men. Repeat a lie or any crazy idea many times and people will take it for the truth.

Wabigoon First Nation decided they wanted to play the game and get more money before saying ' NO' definitively. Their announcement made that clear to many people. NWMO turned this into an Indigenous ' YES'.

Ignace was manipulated into signing an agreement with NWMO and now regrets it. "Dance with the devil..."

"Canada's Plan" was another NWMO manipulation of a "survey", filtering out everyone who knew anything about nuclear science. The less a person knew about anything, the better. Of, yes, this is what Canadians think and it just happens to be what we (NWMO) wants to do.

NWMO representatives actively intimidated individuals and entire towns to push their agenda. Why do they lie and bribe and represent themselves and their plan in such a criminal fashion? they must like it because they do not really have to say anything to anybody. They already have the master's approval. They do not have to anger anyone to have their way. there are a lot of angry people in Canada and around the world who are tired of being steam rolled by large industries,

It is unfortunate that all of this sounds like a conspiracy theory. It is NOT conspiracy; rather, it is simply fear and greed in action. We are just that primitive. The people who should know better are there for the money. The tragedy is that "money" is unlimited and there is no need to trade away your morals for something of such fleeting value.

Nuclear waste MUST be stored at the point of origin, where it can be monitored, cooled and maintained in safety for at least ten years. It is too hot physically or radioactively to move before that time. So, why not keep it there? There is 50+ years of waste at most Canadian nuclear plants now. The nuclear industry is planning on refurbishing some reactors and building new less-safe reactors that will create further decades worth of waste. The reason: to support AI data centers and EVs. So, let's throw out 50+ years of successful Rolling Stewardship in favour of unproven and easily shown to be ineffective burial and abandonment. Considering the industry's twisted notion regarding "saving money", the whole DGR project with its construction, waste transport, reprocessing, burial and limited monitoring is tremondously wasteful of the ever-cherished dollars. They want to construct a horrific environmental hazard for the future. Certainly one way to be remembered by history.

Back in the 1960s the projected need for electricity use was used to justify the building of Canada's first reactors. That wave of use never came.  Now we have economical solar and wind power whose pricing keeps going down BUT the industry is centrist and wants big power plants using fossil fuel or radioactive nuclear fuel. They are trying to justify their existance with cathedrals of environmental irresponsibility. Everyone likes cathedrals, right? Those AI data centers being planned and built are described in terms of their power consumption! Great! A cathedral to waste of energy and resources. And for what purpose? A very few men will make a lot of dollars at the expense of the planet.

Maybe it is Human-kind's future to filter ourselves out of existence. We are good at making species go extinct. Mismanaging the nuclear waste we have created is one way to go about it.
