My suggestions regarding the Draft Impact Statement Guidelines of NWMO's Deep Geological Repository

Please consider the following:

NWMO must provide a complete description with all potential impacts of all components of the project. This includes transportation, processing, design, construction, processes for placement of waste underground, monitoring, potential releases to outside air and water during all parts of the project and retrievability of wastes.

Alternatives should be discussed, such as improved, long-term storage at reactor stations.

The trahsportation of materials over long distances must be examined and critically reviewed, including possible exposures to radioactivity, the safety of containers, emergency response procedures and route selection.

The method of seeking consent for the project must be outlined. This includes the Free, Prior and Informed Consent of Indigenous people, consent of communities along the transportation route and consent of communities nearby or potentially affected by the DGR site.
