I am a lifelong resident of Sioux Lookout, Ontario, which lies downstream from this proposed site. To my knowledge, we have been mostly ignored or left out of this decision. As a longtime outsdoorsman and guide of this area, it saddens me to think that one day this may all become a wasteland. It just takes billions in bribery to turn the most scenic and pristine settings into a place that most tourists, which now fill the area in summer months, will want to stay far away from.
Transporting this waste on the most accident prone highways, will probably end this experiment before it goes full bore, but which community along the way will take the brunt of this? Maybe the chosen area which has plenty of history with seismic activity will be the end of things here. This isn't just regular waste, it's the ultimate catastrophe. It may be well thought out, and well planned, but it still is an Experiment. Their goal is to move it away from the more vastly populated area. Less casualties just in case.
One accident, one human error, one misjudgement and forever waste will now be the only thing left in the place we call home. Money is the root of all evil, and these "Learning" funds given to earn trust and gain permission is the perfect example of that.
The Impact of this project going forward will leave us northerners feeling hopeless. Our kids and grandkids will not ever know the beauty of this watershed and land, stress free.
