Although I have numerous considrations, none is more dire that the thought of shipping nuclear waste in my community in New Brunswick. Either by train or by transport, it has to go by my house and by my house I mean if there is a mishap here, I will be effected. During anytime working in the nuclear indusrty, all of which is in Pt. Lepreau, nuclear waste has been the faux pas. Do not go near, avoid at all cost and if you have any on you going out the door, you're scrubbed down like a rag doll. Now, since it has no place left to go at Pt. Lepreau, probably because the facility wasn't supposed to be in operation this long and with the additions of wanting SMR's, it's got to go half way across the country. One word, scary.
Canada wants to be what, the pioneer of this type of place, as it has never been done before no matter how much consideration it has been given?
Canada wants to put people at risk for the sake of forcing a nuclear agenda without any feasability done on renewables with no nuclear waste?
Canada wants to put drinking water sheds in danger, at the risk of never being usable in all our life times, if there is a diaster?
Canada wants everyone to consider nuclear power clean energy because there's no smoke stack, even though the waste is worse than the carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfate and benzene that goes into the atmosphere in other fossil fuel processes? I worked in the industy, for 25 years, I know renewables are the clean alternative, please do a cost analisys and compare nuclear to that.
Indigenous consideration at Pt. Lepreau seems bleak, as I just read there was never any consultation back in the 70's and I'm sure there's examples right across the country where this project hasn't fully met every Indigenous community effected. Please provie any and all of the consultations compared to the communities effected for consideration.
Barely any federal or provincial politicians are talking to members of their communities about this, it's not on the evening news, at all and I wonder, are people just supposed to some how stumble onto while srolling on TikTok? Very sad to see something like this being rolled out like this, isn't it? Everybody effected should be contacted directly.
I am already completely effected by cost overruns and the display of power the provincial and federal governmets exhibited pushing the cost of the Pt. Lepreau debacle down rate payers throats. What asurance is there more nuclear energy plans in New Brunswick aren't going to do the same? None?
One accident on a Canadian highway or railroad would be deadly for nearby nature, wildlife and waterways.
I can only image what a person involved in an accident transporting this would recieve.
In this intial stage, I would like to consider it a hold point. Time to stop and re-evaluate, answer questions, notify public, tally up costs and compare and consult with anybody who's impacted.
Most of all it's a time to agree to proper feasability studies and proper impact accessments, especially environmental. Please take all the time we need, it's not like the waste is going anywhere.
