Please consider this as my formal objection and strong oppostion to the consideration of the High Level Nuclear Waste Repository in Ignace and Wabigoon and Northern Ontario.  As a resident and concerned for the safety of the Environment and the People of Northern Ontario.

The plan requires transportation of 5.9 million bundles of High-Level Nuclear Waste over thousands of kilometers.  The total cost of this excessive distance in transportation for this endeavour should be taken into consideration as wasted taxpayer dollars.  The transportation route do not have specialized emergency personel, equipment, or infrastructure to manage a catastrophic nuclear spill.  The cost of having these routes covered with the emergency infrastructure in place would and should be taken into account and the extra taxpayer cost.

Southern Ontario has the established facilities and trained experts.  They also have the existing Brownfileds which are already compromised and  where the waste is presently being stored which can serve no other purpose for hundreds of years to come.  Why are the present sites not being considered and used to their full potential as Brownfields, saving Canadian taxpayers excessive cost of new sites infrastructure and transportation.

Northern Ontario should not be expected to become the "dumping ground" for waste from a power grid we did not benefit from.

Building an underground facility in the North is an astronomical expense compared to maintaining the waste in brownfields sites where it currently sits. Building a new underground facility would be more costly then building a above ground safe facility at the present sites in close proximity to where the majority of the waste presently is stored and the expertise is situated.

The current sites already have specialized staff and security in place.

The proposed site in Northern Ontario requires massive new construction and creation of a 175 year management cycle in a remote area, which is both financial and environmentally wasteful.

In conclusion Northern Ontario is not a wasteland to be abused by Southern Ontario Industry. It is home to vital watersheds and communites.  I refuse to accept the risks associated with Southern Ontario or any other Provinces nuclear legacy.  I request that current selection process include the honest evaluation of cost savings of enhanced dry-storage at the existing reactor sites be paramount in the selction process, putting taxpayers savings cost first.

I believe this selection process is flawed by "BRIBING and BUYING HAVE NOT Communities in NORTHERN ONTARIO which is wrong as a priority in the selection process.

Sincerely

Theresa Strangway
