To whom it may concern,
My name is Larissa Desrosiers and I am Anishinaabe from Couchiching First Nation in Treaty #3. I am deeply disturbed by this project plan. I do not consent to the DGR for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project. I do not consent for this plan to move forward in any way, shape or form. I am freely informed prior to this project, and I do not consent. It is my responsibility as an Anishinaabekwe to do what I can to protect the animals, lands and waters for people alive today, and for future generations. Your proposal addresses many safety concerns folks have, but accidents happen and one accident could be catastrophic for thousands of years to come. First Nations will be highly impacted, but don't forget your own people will be affected too. It is inevitable. This is not a necessary evil. Do not do this. First Nations along that highway have already been colonized and have faced the damage that has been done to their communities, including what it's done to the land. This will only make it worse for too many reasons to count. We know there is a direct coorelation between MMIWG2S+ and the presence/close proximity of Extractive and Development Industries. It is deeply insulting to say you respect this truth in your acknowledgements when your plan is to bring truck drivers along this highway multiple times a day, and therefore into the Indigenous community where the waste management site will be. Just because you acknowledge something in writing, doesn't mean that there isn't a potential for real harm to our women, children, and 2SLGBTQ+ folks.
I am invoking treaty law Manito Aki Inakonigaawin found in Treaty #3, also known as the Great Earth Law. It is a law that states the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3 maintains the rights to all lands and water in the territory throughout Northwestern Ontario and Southeastern Manitoba. Accordingly, any development in the Treaty #3 territory, including forestry, mining, hydro, highway, pipeline, and other consultation approaches, require the consent, agreement, and participation of the Anishinaabe Nation in Treaty #3.
I do not consent to the Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project - Larissa Desrosiers, registered member of Couchiching First Nation in Treaty #3
