Transportation concerns

I am writing this letter our of deep concern around the recent decision of the choice of Ignace in NW Ontario as the repository for nuclear waste.   Specifically, the illogical aspect of transporting this highly toxic cargo over thousands of kilometres has not received nearly enough attention within the project scope.   I am a resident of Thunder Bay and am very aware of the hazardous nature of travel on our highways.   In the last week there have been both serious highway closures and fatalities on the TransCanada as a result of accidents involving semis.   This is the very route that these nuclear waste trucks would be following.   There is no way to guarantee the safely of these vehicles over the vast disntaces they would travel, given questionable road conditions, variable severe weather incidents and human error.   And we do not need to increase the burning of fossil fuels necessitated by the sheer number of these trucks.

I am requesting the rights of ALL impacted communites, including Indigenous territories, be protected and a thorough consultation process be impletented in the name of justice for both humans and the environment.
