Opposed to transporting nuclear waste along northern Ontario highways

Hello,

I've always been opposed to nuclear waste storage in Northern Ontario because of the transportation risks whether by rail or truck. Trucking nuclear waste across our northern highways is just too risky and dangerous. Travelling 1800 km to store nuclear waste and risking accidents that may contaminate fragile ecosystems or small towns doesn't make sense. Most of our highways are just 2 lanes, west and north of Sudbury. We have frequent snowstorms and highway closures along the highways adjacent to Lake Superior in winter. Tourism with slow moving recreational vehicles coupled with frustrated drivers in summer is also a risk as well as moose and wildlife encounters. Inexperienced truck drivers along northern highways has resulted in increased accidents. Why was this ridiculous project even considered? If the population of Southern Ontario is so large that it requires nuclear power, then waste storage facilities should be part of that plan on-site instead of trying to get rid of "the problem" in another area. It will be a case of out of sight out of mind with the wasteful practices of big cities leaving lights on in office buildings all night and air conditioning large buildings continuing while we in the north accept fewer amenities and luxuries that you find in larger Southern Ontario cities. Again, I am strongly opposed to the storage of nuclear waste in Ignace or any northern town due to the transportation risks of radioactive nuclear waste travelling on our highways and rail lines.
