As a citizen in Northwestern Ontario living close to the Trans Canada Highway I am deeply concerned for the safety of my children and grandchildren and their children as they will be exposed to the transportation and storage of the most dangerous pollutant that human technology has ever created. The claims of safety made are just part of a historical pattern used by those with vested interests used to justify their risk to the innocent people unawear of the dangers. There is the pattern of treating this population by giving them information tightly controlled by these vested interests and sweetened by stragetic money offerrings to those who will be more exposed to these high risks. All of which we have witnessed in the development of the Ignace Nuclear Waste Project. Not to involve the communities along the route with descision making opportunities that this dangerous pollutant will provide is also a form of controlling the outcome. There are much better solutions that can be found if the vast sums of money used for this project were redirected for a permanant safe method of storage and the phasing out of nuclear power for safer, cleaner, and more sustanable energy. However I am now in my senior years and have observed previous projects that are basically economically and elitists driven and I realized that change is more likely to be considered when there is an accident and innocent lives are lost. I try and remain hopeful but realistically the ones holding the cards, with a stacked deck, are already reaching into the chip pile to collect their winnings.
