Transportation of nuclear waste is a major concern, because no matter how good your drivers are, no matter how well built your vehicles are, no matter how well-made your packaging is, they will be on an extremely long trip through territory filled with hills, curves, wildlife, and roads that are not maintained well especially in winter - ice, snow, white-outs & poor maintenance clearing; and even worse are the vehicles, especially semis. Twenty years ago you could trust truck drivers completely with your life. Not anymore. Everyday someone is injured or killed on 17 or 11. They pass you on hills & corners, they speed, tailgate, ignore road signs, they don't pay attention to the road, the weather, or other vehicles, some don't seem to know where they are going. A lot of these rigs are not roadworthy. A lot of these drivers should NOT be behind the wheel of any vehicle.
I know a few old-time drivers that quit driving longhaul, they weren't retirement age yet, and they know many more drivers that have quit due to all these terrible newer drivers. Federal & Provincial governments are doing nothing, our courts do nothing.
Do any of you read the news? Have any of you driven on these roads - summer & winter? Please do so...repeatedly & with your families.
When your drivers get killed & your nuclear waste is spilled, what is your game plan?
Yes, I am against the site being in NW Ontario as the land & water here are pure. I prefer the site be located where the owners/manufacturers live as the land & water there are not pure (maybe close to toxic?).
Where will we, and your descendants, get pure water after you've poisoned ours?
