As a physician I am deeply aware of the dangers of uranium exploration and mining, and the use of nuclear power plants to human health and the environment on which we depend for our welbeing. I am aware that nuclear waste cannot be disposed of safely, and persists for thousands of years.
I urge the Canadian government to immediately place a moratorium on all uranium exploration and mining, and development of nuclear power plants, and invest in renewable energy like wind and solar which is cheaper and faster to develop, and does not leave radioactive waste.
Note this article in The Guardian reporting that wind and solar overtook fossil fuels for EU power generation in 2025.
