Short sighted planning

I'm writing from Winnipeg, MB. There has already been horrific water contamination in the Wabigoon River in NW Ontario. Closer to Winnipeg in Stonewall the Rockwood Sensitive Area is an environmental disaster due to leaked solvents from Bristol Aerospace, due to the porous nature of the limestone the site sits on the remediation is ongoing despite occuring in the 1990s. For the DGR, the impacts as well as continuity of the site are truly impossible to foresee. The benefits are few and the risks are off the charts and nightmarish in scope. Even a minor fracture in the containment risks polluting one of the largest watersheds in North America. The fact this waste was only a pressing concern at the end of its viable life demonstrates the lack of consideration and foresight with handling nuclear waste. The storage, transportation and security of this waste is a massive risk and potential disaster waiting to happen that will have such broad reaching impacts it's difficult to conceptualize them. I vehemently oppose this project and what has currently been tabled.
