Deep Geological Repository (DGR) for Canada's Used Nuclear Fuel Project
Not enough details

I am concerned that the Initial Project Description leaves out key risks that must be assessed before this project moves forward.
Transportation of highly radioactive fuel waste over long distances poses risks from traffic accidents, spills, security incidents, and inadequate emergency capacity in small communities. This must be fully included in the project scope.
At the site itself, there is not enough detail about potential groundwater contamination, long-term container failure, seismic activity, and how climate change and extreme weather could affect the repository over centuries. The plan also lacks clarity about how radiation releases from surface facilities will be prevented and monitored.
Given the irreversible nature of burying nuclear waste, the federal review should require stronger safety analysis, include transportation impacts, and allow more time for meaningful public input.
Thank you for considering these concerns.
