Conventional nuclear is cumbersome old tech completely unsuitable for 21st century needs. Every 2 days, China is installing SOLAR power which is the energy equivalent to this billion-dollar boondoggle project.
Decommission Darlington's old-school uranium reactors.
On the same site, build a much safer THORIUM reactor which will run on easily-accessible thorium AND consume/ameliorate problematic waste from old-tech nuclear reactors (which will solve the need to bury waste at Revell Lake near Ignace, ON). Cover the new Darlington thorium project with SOLAR panels to generate additional power in case of grid interruptions. Add multiple small Honeywell WIND generators on the edges of the buildings. In future, the thorium reactors could be repurposed as salt batteries to store solar, wind, and tidal power.
Redundancy assures success in nature. My proposed Darlington, Ontario redundant energy plant can be a world's first demonstration of resilient design.
