Black Bear Power Plant Project
Thank you for your correspondence regarding the proposed Black Bear Power Plant Project. We appreciate the opportunity to review the Initial Project Description and to engage in a dialogue about this important development.
After consulting with our Council and Administration, we have identified several key areas of concern and interest. These include:
Environmental Concerns:
- Potential impacts on local wildlife and their habitats, particularly species that hold cultural significance for our community.
- Changes to water quality and availability, which are vital for both our daily lives and traditional practices.
Social and Economic Impacts:
- Effects on community health and well-being, including concerns about potential pollution and noise from the plant.
- Opportunities for employment and economic development for our members, balanced with concerns about equitable access to these opportunities.
Cultural Heritage:
- Preservation of sacred sites and traditional land use areas that may be affected by the project.
We apologize for missing the initial deadline to respond. However, East Prairie Métis Settlement remains very interested in continuing the conversation and would like to set up a meeting to discuss the project further.
In terms of the consultation process, we believe that a meaningful dialogue should include:
- Opportunities for both in-person and virtual meetings to accommodate our community members.
- Involvement of our elders and knowledge keepers to ensure cultural perspectives are respected and considered.
- Provision of resources to help our community understand the technical aspects of the project, such as expert presentations and workshops.
We are also interested in learning more about participant funding grants to support our engagement in this process. Could you please provide further details on how to apply and the types of activities that can be funded?
Please consider this letter as our intent to continue participating in the consultation process. We look forward to scheduling a meeting at your earliest convenience to discuss the project in more detail.
Thank you for your attention to these matters. We are committed to working collaboratively to ensure that the Black Bear Power Plant Project is developed in a manner that respects and benefits our community.
Sincerely,
Raymond Supernault
