Dear Government Representative,

Re: This is Our water

Ian Tyson declares “this is my sky”; Corb Lund declares “this is my prairie”; it’s our turn to raise our voices and declare: “this is OUR water”!

We’re counting on you, politicians, to protect it. We’re responsible as water users, that’s all of us, to hold politicians to account. Open pit coal mining in our one and only mountain range in Alberta is a non-starter. Destruction of the watersheds and areas of natural water storage is a fatal mistake as witnessed by what is happening in the lower mainland.

In Alberta, reclamation is defined by the provincial government as "The process of reconverting disturbed land to its former or other productive uses”. This is impossible. The first and best use of our mountains and hills is water capture, storage and delivery. Mountains and hills cannot be rebuilt to their original integrity or for any “other productive use”.

Please listen up politicians, use your common sense. Albertans don’t want our major source of water, which all life depends on, destroyed. NO TO COAL MINES anywhere in the Eastern Slopes and our Rockies now or in the future. FULL STOP!

Sincerely,

T.Duncan
