  • Thank you for taking my call. As discussed, please see the preliminary initial response from our office and now that we have received the engagement funds, I can contact the various community members and or have an open house to gather further comments.   Time frame was not inclusive of our First Nation process of consultation. PLPP is close to two sensitive species ranges- The threatened Grizzly Bear and Trumpeter Swan. Wildlife do not stay in their designated zones, they hunt and migrate. Page 32 Page 34 ‘Table 6. Potential Sensitive Species and likelihood of occurrence’ There are 18 Bird species and 8 mammals listed, being sensitive, threatened or endangered what process is in place to protect if any wildlife comes in contact with hazardous chemicals within the storm water pond or surrounding PLPP area? Concern for the permanent displacement of habitat for any current wildlife. Complete loss of habitat. Page 43 Concern for the nearby water courses, closest one being 650m from PLPP, Big Mountain Creek 900m and Smokey River 4km. This raises concern considering the Trumpeter Swan zone is so close by. Page 46 Page 49-50 Under Hunting and Plant Gathering states “-further consultation with Indigenous Groups will occur as per ACO requirements and areas of traditional use would hopefully be identified at that time, if they exist.” Once our offices receives site assessment payment, our team can assess the area and determine if there are any traditional uses within the proposed area.   • 1 PART A – Summary of Issues – Prairie Lights Power Station Introduction Prairie Lights Power GP Inc. is proposing the construction, operation and decommissioning of a 360- megawatt natural gas-fired power generation facility that would deliver electricity to Alberta. The proposed Prairie Lights Power Project would be located 35 kilometers south of Grande Prairie, within the Municipal District of Greenview, Alberta. The Detailed Project Description should serve to better understand the purpose of the proposed project and show how it connects with gender equality and broader inclusion goals. Ideally gender equality and inclusion issues should be found in all sections of the report rather than mentioned only in a specific section on gender. Having said that, the proponent may wish to include a specific section to highlight the relevance between the energy sector, gender equality and inclusion in addition to embedding these considerations through all sections of the report.   • Grovedale has seen a lot of changes in the past decade. Some good some not so much.  The real question is what is the power plant for, just oil and gas or is it going to power our community. What will the end costs be to the MD and it’s rate payers?  Will our power bills decrease or will there’s be a jump in rates to pay for this? Also from an environmental impact there will be another large foot print in Grovedale. Will there be a lot of new power lines coming and going? thank you

  • Basically I have no concerns about this project as long as it is entirely funded by the private sector. No federal, provincial or municiple taxpayer dollars should be used fund this project, any project that is not fiscally viable on it's own is not should not built Most of these pipe dream projects are based on mining taxpayer dollars and not a sound business case. If it was a sound financial business it would not want public funding - they would want to keep all the profits for themselves.
