Everything that I have seen in the world of reputable science suggests that this project is environmentally sound.  

Ultimately, this should be put to a board of experts who seriously weigh the risks to the economic benefits of the project. I am not someone qualified to make that decision, but it should be a decision based on sound scientific evidence and not a popularity contest.
