I am writing this letter in support of the Grassy Mountain Coal Project. I was born and raised in the Crowsnest Pass and I’m currently studying Business with an emphasis of Finance at the University of Lethbridge. Being a student nearing completion of my degree, I am nervous that I won’t be able to move back to my hometown and start a career in my field of study. The opportunity for students to enter the workforce in the field of their expertise are slim in the Crowsnest Pass. The opportunity to enter the workforce here is slim in general. When I think of what the Grassy Mountain Coal Project can do for our community (job opportunities, recreation opportunities, business growth, expanded tourism, diversifying and growing our population) I get very excited.

The prospect of a new mine coming back to a community that roots were built on mining is very fitting in my opinion. Many of my friends (who are young adults) rely on Teck Resources in surrounding communities to make a living. For them, to have the opportunity to work in the Crowsnest Pass and not have to travel to sustain a career is very promising. I know the younger generation doesn’t voice their opinion as often on these forums, however, the amount of excitement Riversdale has brought to myself and my peers over the prospect of having job security in our hometown is invaluable.

Thank you for your consideration of this exciting project opportunity for our amazing community.
