Kemess Underground Project

AuRico Metals Inc. proposes to construct and operate the Kemess Underground Project, an underground gold-copper mine located approximately 250 kilometres north of Smithers and 430 kilometres northwest of Prince George, British Columbia. As proposed, the project is anticipated to have an ore production capacity of approximately 24,650 tonnes per day (105,000 ounces of gold and 44 million pounds of copper per year) using underground block caving methods, over a predicted 13-year mine life.

October 20, 2020 - An inspection summary is available for an onsite inspection conducted between September 14, 2020 and September 17, 2020.

September 18, 2020 - The public comment period on the recommended changes to the legally-binding conditions is closed. The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada is considering comments received. The Minister of Environment and Climate Change will issue to the proponent an amended impact assessment Decision Statement with reasons and enforceable conditions, should the revised project be allowed to proceed.
