I strongly oppose the Cochrane Hill Gold Mine for many reasons : Cochrane Hill has only 4 1/2 years of mining decent ore, plus a couple years of processing some substantially less profitable (maybe even marginal) low grade stockpiles).
This will involve loud blasting 2 to 3 times per week, and 6 or more C-train truckloads of ore per day more passing through Sherbrooke to take the ore to be processed in Moose River Gold Mines.
Gold mining is ranked in the top 5 of the world’s worst and largest pollutants.

Cochrane Hill, one of four open pit gold mines proposed by Atlantic Gold on Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore will have long-term, negative, irreversible consequences in exchange for marginal, short-term gains by a foreign entity.
Atlantic Gold has 32 "known" infractions at Moose River, infractions which are sure to multiply at Moose River, Cochrane Hill, Fifteen Mile Stream & Beaver Dam.
Please stop the development of Cochrane Hill, Fifteen Mile Stream, Beaver Dam, and all future gold mining in Nova Scotia.

I have also done several avian studies in the area of the proposed gold mine for other land owner interests.
This is much more viable long-term plan than to simply destroy this place through a gold mine who's affects may last generations.

As a resident of Melrose, Nova Scotia I strongly oppose the Cochrane Hill Gold Project.
The idea that our government would even entertain an open pit gold mine along the St.
Nova Scotians today do not want, nor do we need another gold mine.

My concerns - The Cochrane Hill project is part of larger project - 4 gold mines in the Sherbrook area.They are all connected and any assessment should take in the impact of all four projects.
On their past record of not meeting commitments - they should not be approved for Cochrane Hill.
For these reasons alone, I humbly submit that the proposal from Atlantic Gold for Cochrane Hill does not pass the environmental assessment and it does not provide to NS any real benefits.

The river itself is now for the most part protected to a degree however, I believe that the Cochrane Hill mine will be detrimental and pose serious hazards to the river and surrounding area.
I do not support the Cocharne Hill Mine.

If we take a moment to look at data surrounding our practical need and demand for gold, for example: Source: gold.org/goldhub/data/gold-supply-and-demand-statistics For 2020 and most years prior, practical use of gold (technology) is about 302.2 trillion tonnes out of 3803.10 (total) which is 8% rounding up.
So 92% of gold sits idle with no practical use beyond imaginary economic theory and artificially over-valued shiny trinkets.
Gold for truly practical applications in science and technology requires only a tiny fraction of available supply, meaning we have a drastic over-supply of gold for all practical needs.

Atlantic Gold, now an Australian Corporation called St Barbara; has displayed lack of care to wildlife and they are willing to break the law.
Historical gold mining from our three gold rushes has caused damage to our environment, so much it has been understudied.
Lastly gold is underpriced considering our inflating money supply.
