Highway 905 - All Weather Roadway - Stony Rapids to Lake Athabasca near Fond-du-Lac

Public Comments Invited on the Draft Project-Specific Guidelines and Scoping Document

The Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure (SMHI) is proposing to construct an all-weather road from Stony Rapids to the south shore of Lake Athabasca near Fond-du-Lac. The purpose of the project is to enable more efficient transportation of goods and services to Fond-du-Lac.

The project is subject to both a comprehensive study under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and an environmental impact assessment under The Environmental Assessment Act (Saskatchewan).

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment invite the public to comment on the project and the environmental assessment.

Public comments are specifically requested on a draft Project-Specific Guidelines and Scoping Document which incorporates the requirements of the federal and provincial environmental assessment processes and identifies the key issues and studies to be addressed in SMHI's environmental impact statement.

Comments received by September 27, 2010 will be considered. All comments will be reviewed by both federal and provincial regulators and will be considered public as part of the project file.

The document can be viewed at the offices of the Northern Hamlet of Stony Rapids, the Black Lake Denesuline First Nation, Fond-du-Lac Denesuline First Nation, and the Métis Nation-Northern Region I in La Ronge.

An electronic version of the document can also be viewed in the Canadian Environmental Assessment Registry, under reference number 10-03-57501, as well as on the Saskatchewan Ministry of the Environment's Web site at www.environment.gov.sk.ca.
