Draft Environmental Assessment Follow-up Program - Refurbishment and Continued Operation of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station

As part of the environmental assessment (EA) decision on the refurbishment and continued operation of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) determined that an EA follow-up program was needed. The development of this program was delegated to Ontario Power Generation (OPG). As a result, OPG has produced a draft EA follow-up program document that the CNSC and DFO have reviewed and wish to consult with the public on.

The public comment period ends on August 26, 2013.

Interested parties should address their written comments to the CNSC Environmental Assessment Specialist at the address indicated below. CNSC staff and DFO will review and address all comments received before directing OPG to finalize the draft EA follow-up program document. The finalized EA follow-up program document will help inform OPG's). licence submissions to the CNSC related to the refurbishment and continued operation of the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station. CNSC staff also expects to report to the Commission on the acceptability of the EA follow-up program during a future hearing. All comments received regarding the EA follow-up program will be considered public information.

Electronic copies of the draft EA follow-up program document can be obtained by contacting the Environmental Assessment Specialist at EA@cnsc-ccsn.gc.ca. An electronic copy of the document can also be obtained from OPG's Web site.
