Decision

Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Natural Resources Canada have taken the following course of action on August 2, 2013 relating to the comprehensive study of the Renard Diamond Mine Project. The authorities may exercise any power or perform any duty or function with respect to the project because, after taking into consideration the comprehensive study report and taking into account the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures, the authorities are of the opinion that the project is not likely to cause significant environmental effects.

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

Biological

  • Birds and/or their habitat
  • Fauna at risk (as defined under the Species at Risk Act)
  • Fish and/or their habitat

Human (effect of any change in the environment on ...)

  • Current use of land and resources for traditional purposes
  • Human health and safety
  • Physical and/or Cultural Heritage
  • Structure, Site or Thing of Historic, Archaeological, Paleontological or Architectural Significance

Physical

  • Air Quality
  • Noise Levels
  • Water Quality
  • Water Quantity

A follow-up program to verify the accuracy of the environmental assessment and/or determine the effectiveness of any measures taken to mitigate the adverse environmental effects is required for this project.
