Canpotex Potash Terminal Project – Public Comments Invited on the Comprehensive Study Report

OTTAWA – September 7, 2012 – The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency is conducting a comprehensive study environmental assessment of the Canpotex Potash Terminal Project located in British Columbia. The public is invited to comment on the Comprehensive Study Report for this proposed project.

The Comprehensive Study Report includes the Agency’s conclusions and recommendations regarding the implementation of appropriate mitigation measures and whether or not the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

After this public comment period, the Minister of the Environment will take into consideration the Comprehensive Study Report along with public comments received and issue his environmental assessment decision statement.

The Comprehensive Study Report and more information on this project are available on the Agency’s website (registry reference number 47632). The document is available in paper copy by request.

Public comments received by October 5, 2012 will be considered.

This is the final public comment period for the environmental assessment of the project.

Canpotex Terminals Limited and the Prince Rupert Port Authority are proposing to develop and operate a potash export terminal and a rail, road and utilities corridor on Ridley Island in the Port of Prince Rupert, in British Columbia.

The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency administers the federal environmental assessment process, which identifies the environmental effects of proposed projects and measures to address those effects, in support of sustainable development.
