The Proposed Project

Hydro One D6 Transmission Relocation Project

Hydro One Networks Inc. (HONI) proposes to relocate approximately 25 kilometres of the existing 115-kilovolt (kV) D6 transmission line between Chalk River Junction and Petawawa Junction as part of a broader transmission infrastructure renewal program (‘Project') for the region. The Project would involve activities on lands owned by Atomic Energy of Canada Limited (AECL) and therefore AECL, as the responsible authority, must determine whether the proposed Project at the Chalk River Laboratories site is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The relocation is necessary because a portion of the existing line traverses an active training area within the Department of National Defence Garrison Petawawa, adjacent to Chalk River Laboratories. To facilitate the relocation, the Project requires modification of the existing D6 transmission line located on AECL's site. This would involve the establishment of a new transmission corridor with an approximate footprint of 470 m × 30 m. Proposed Project activities include vegetation clearing, construction of a temporary access road, and installation of new transmission structures and conductors.

Potential effects on species at risk, habitat, and cultural heritage resources will be assessed and managed in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements, and environmental management policy that directs the management and operation of the Chalk River Laboratories site.
