Multi-Use Industrial Facility located at Calgary International Airport

Notice of determination

October 30, 2026 – The Calgary Airport Authority and the Canada Infrastructure Bank have determined that the proposed Multi-Use Industrial Facility is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge;
  • community knowledge;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.

Mitigation measures[1] taken into account for this determination are:

  • An Environmental Construction Operations Plan (ECO Plan) will be prepared prior to construction and identify the environmental protection measures that will be implemented during construction and will further describe how mitigation measures will be applied, monitored, and updated throughout the project. The plan is expected to include detailed requirements related to erosion and sediment control, dewatering, wildlife and species at risk protection, regulated weed management, spill prevention and response, and contamination management.
  • Hazardous materials, waste, and spill prevention measures to protect soil, groundwater, and surface water quality.
  • Restoration and revegetation of disturbed areas using appropriate vegetation management practices.
  • Design and site management measures to support stormwater management and protect water resources.
  • Measures to protect wildlife, including procedures to manage wildlife attractants to reduce wildlife hazards in the airport environment.
  • Traffic, noise, and construction management measures to minimize disruption to airport operations, tenants, and the public.
  • Dust, air quality, and emissions reduction measures to minimize environmental impacts during construction and operation.

The Calgary Airport Authority and the Canada Infrastructure Bank are satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

Therefore, the Calgary Airport Authority and the Canada Infrastructure Bank may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.

[1] Mitigation measures means measures to eliminate, reduce, control or offset the adverse effects of a project or designated project, and includes restitution for any damage caused by those effects through replacement, restoration, compensation or any other means.
