The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. This project involves the construction of a new extension at Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot (CFAD) Rocky Point for ammunition maintenance and fueling functions. The scope of the project includes digging foundation and utility lines, relocating power poles, as well as construction of building walls, foundation and interior. The extension will be 12 m wide by 24 m long (288m2). Based on the concept design, the new extension will be partially connected to the existing ammunition maintenance facility and will include two different areas of operation: one for defueling and fueling operations, and one for storage of parts and spare components. Two new above ground storage tanks (ASTs) will be installed, one of which will be configured to receive (delivery by truck), store and transfer fuel for fueling, and one which will be configured to receive and store fuel from defueling, until it can be removed from site by truck. A new nitrogen generator will be installed in the existing building. All collected process air from the fueling/defueling area will be treated using an activated carbon filtration unit prior to being discharged to the atmosphere. The new ASTs and carbon filter will have an overhead structure for weather protection and will be protected by a security fence, with an associated concrete truck offload apron with spill control. Two existing 1,000 United States Water Gallons (3,785 L) propane ASTs will need to be temporarily relocated to facilitate construction of the new walkway between the new extension and the existing facility. The propane tanks will be reinstalled on the north side of the new walkway. An existing seacan (RP117) will be removed, and the existing concrete slab used for cleaning and servicing of munition parts will be demolished.
