The proposed project
Attawapiskat First Nation is proposing the development of "Tiny Homes" within the community. The project includes developing 12 serviced lots consisting of single bedroom detached housing units, with service extensions (local water and sewer services) to the new proposed housing locations as it is 1.9km away from town services. Other physical activities include the construction of a new road/ bay off the existing Healing Lodge Road with provisions of sanitary servicing (a new communal septic field), watermain, fire hydrants, hydro, utility servicing, subdivision drainage ditching and site grading.
The First Nation had cleared and grubbed the majority of the proposed development site in late fall/ winter 2025 after the bird nesting season. Each housing unit will be approximately 75 meters squared (m2) and two septic tanks, a water well and treated water storage tanks will be installed as part of the project.
