Eastern Bridge Project

Public notice

Comments invited on the summary of the Initial Project Description and participant funding available

September 1, 2026 — Ottawa, Ontario

Public Services and Procurement Canada is proposing the construction and operation of the Eastern Bridge Project, a new interprovincial bridge spanning the Ottawa River located east of the downtown cores of Ottawa, Ontario and Gatineau, Quebec. The purpose of the project is to create an interprovincial crossing that will help address the region's growing population, reduce traffic congestion, boost economic growth, contribute to transportation resiliency and improve emergency response capabilities. As proposed, the bridge would be about two kilometres long. The project would involve modifications to about nine kilometres of existing roads and intersections along the Montée-Paiement-Aviation Parkway corridor. These modifications would extend from Autoroute 50 at Montée Paiement in Gatineau to Highway 417 at the Aviation Parkway in Ottawa.

The Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) invites Indigenous Peoples and the public to review the summary of the Initial Project Description and provide comments on the proposed project.
